There are so many great places in Pennsylvania to visit, so why Gettysburg? Most people tend to think that only huge history nerds can appreciate Gettysburg, but this simply isn't true. Even if you're not already well-versed in American history, there's plenty of things to see and do in this great area.
1. The History
2. The Supernatural
Many people believe that Gettysburg is haunted with the thousands of soldiers killed during the Battle of Gettysburg. As such, there are multiple ghost tours in the area and supposed haunted houses that you can visit. Even if you don't personally believe in ghosts, there is definitely a chilling atmosphere to these places that at least makes them unique and memorable. Plus, you never know who else in your group might take it seriously and start getting really freaked out. You can at least get a few chuckles out of going, if nothing else.
3. The Beautiful Sights
Even though Gettysburg is mostly remembered as a war zone and a mass graveyard, there are some great opportunities for sightseeing. One of my favorite spots is on top of "Devil's Den," a big rock-like structure that you can climb (pictured above). It gives a great view of the battlefields, forestry, and mountains. There are also tons of monuments and statues throughout the area that are fun to see. They also sometimes have plaques or signs that help you further understand the history of the area and the battle that took place.
There are plenty of other things to see in the area, but I'll leave it to you to explore the town and find its other hidden gems yourself!
