5 Reasons Erie is a Fantastic Visit

Many people tend to think of the Great Lake when they hear the word "Erie," but it is also a county and a city. The city of Erie is actually the largest one in Northwestern PA and the fourth largest in the entire state. Since it is so large, one can naturally assume that there is plenty to see and do in the area, and you would be correct! But don't just take my word for it, read on to see the five biggest reasons to check out Erie!

1. Beautiful Beaches

Erie is mostly known for the lake, so it makes sense that the beaches would be a popular attraction. Not only are they beautiful to see, but there are plenty of things to do at these beaches. There's the obvious swimming, but you can also go boating, fishing, surfing, kayaking, and skiing.

2. Other Fun Outdoor Activities

Erie is home to Presque Isle State Park, which is listed as PA's "#1 Freshwater Beach in the Country 2016" in USA Today. Not only are there beaches here, but there are also plenty of trails that are perfect for leisure walking and biking.

3. Amusement Parks

Near the Presque Isle State Park is Waldameer Park and Water World! You can also find the Splash Lagoon Indoor Water Park and Resort in Erie for year-round swimming opportunities.

4. Sports

Fans of hockey, baseball, soccer, and basketball can rejoice because Erie's got it all! Baseball fans can check out UPMC Park, pictured above.

5. The Arts

There are plenty of opportunities for someone looking to be culturally enriched while in Erie. One place to check out is the Erie Art Museum. While they do have many works on display, they also host several fun events throughout the year to get further involved.

This is only a taste of what Erie has to offer. Keep an eye out for our other blog posts throughout the week for a more in-depth look at Erie and how to navigate the city!
